Harrogate Ladies’ College Prepare to Perform Under Milk Wood
Following the success of ‘Anne of Green Gables’ last year, Harrogate Ladies’ College pupils are undergoing final rehearsals for their upcoming theatrical production of ‘Under Milk Wood’.
Dylan Thomas’ classic radio play features an array of colourful characters that are portrayed during the ‘life in a day’ of a small Welsh fishing village called Llareggub.
The large cast includes pupils ranging from Upper 3 to Sixth Form and the surreal style staging draws on the dream-like quality of the text. The plot centres around blind Captain Cat, the melancholic old sea dog who mourns the loss of the ‘long drowned’ and yearns inconsolably for Rosie Probert, “the one love of his sea life that was sardined with women.”
Michael Cook, Head of Drama said:
“We’re incredibly excited to be staging such an ambitious literary masterpiece. With music and drama there really is something for everyone.”
