Highfield celebrate launch of Charity joke book with support from Sandi Toksvig

National treasure and cherished broadcaster Sandi Toksvig OBE has lent support to the book through a humorous foreword after hearing of the initiative.

Sharing her thoughts on joke telling and humour, Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off Co-host said,

“Possibly the oldest joke we know about was written down by a Sumerian person in 1900 BC, in what we now think of as southern Iraq. The thing is whether you wore a toga in the past or a school tie today, all people have always had it in common that we could do with a laugh. I think a day without laughter is like a day without biscuits. It’s also a double whammy of a winner because not only will it do you good, it will also raise money for Macmillan so even people who haven’t read it will feel better. How marvellous. Well done”.

Last term Highfield raised over £2000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through a variety of fundraising events on ‘Ralph Day’, a charity day held in celebration of Head Boy Ralph Tasker completing his cancer treatment. The schools’ Charity Prefects are hopeful that the book packed full of jokes ranging from food to animals and everything in between will boost this total even further. The Highfield joke book is being sold for £5, with a minimum of £4 from each copy being donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
