Drama at Highfield
We’re passionate about Drama at Highfield Prep School because we believe it builds confidence, communication skills and freedom of expression. If children are given the opportunity to develop these skills from an early age they will last a lifetime and will benefit them in all aspects of life as they grow and develop.
At Highfield all of our children have weekly drama lessons with our specialist Drama teacher. More than half of our children also choose to take additional Speech and Drama lessons and LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) examinations. We have various different speech and drama clubs running each week many of which take place in our dedicated Highfield Drama Studio. Visit the Clubs & Societies section of our website to find out more.
The children at Highfield love to perform and as part of a family of three independent schools we have access to Harrogate Ladies’ College drama facilities, which include a dedicated drama theatre, or the Swinton Theatre as it’s known. We use the Swinton Theatre for various performances throughout the year including our 3 separate Nativity Plays (Reception, Prep 1 and Prep 2), and our annual Prep 6 music and drama production. We also use the 350 seat Assembly Hall at College for whole school concerts, performance assemblies and the Prep 3 and Prep 4 Easter Musical.
The children also regularly perform at events outside school including the Harrogate Competitive Speech and Drama Festival.
