Pastoral Care at Highfield

The all round well being of our pupils is at the heart of whole school community. At Highfield this means ensuring that our children are happy, healthy, confident and successful. We work to develop a culture where children respect themselves, others and the world around them.

Class teachers are the backbone of our pastoral care system within school. Small class sizes enable teachers to really get to know and understand each individual child and to support their all round well being and development.

One of the benefits of being part of a wider family of schools is that children and parents at Highfield also benefit from a range of additional support teams often not available to younger children.

Nutrition

Our amazing, award winning Catering Team is made up of talented and creative Chefs and Sous Chefs who understand childhood nutrition and are dedicated to promoting positive attitudes towards food and eating.

All children at Highfield enjoy a two course hot lunch every day served in the main Dining Room of our associated senior school, Harrogate Ladies’ College (during Highfield only sittings). All of our meals are freshly prepared on-site using locally sourced, seasonal, free range and organic ingredients.

As well as preparing our daily meals, the Catering Team also runs lots of special events and activities throughout the year designed to encourage children to understand and enjoy food, such as bread baking, Christmas Pudding club, French breakfast day and the ever popular food collector cards.

Our menus suit the nutritional needs of different age groups with an increasing choice of meals as children progress through school.  Parents often tell us that our menus have encouraged their children to try new foods and to eat foods that they didn’t eat before. We also cater for all dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, halal, nut-free and gluten free – in fact, we’ve never come across a requirement that we couldn’t accommodate!

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

The health and wellbeing of all of our children from 2 to 18 years is of paramount importance to us. We have a dedicated Wellness Centre which is a hub for a wide range of activities and projects designed to encourage the physical, mental and social well-being of children, parents and staff.

The Wellness Centre also has a full time qualified nursing team. As well as being on hand to deal with the medical and healthcare needs of our children, the nursing team is also there for our parents. They work with parents to provide practical advice, guidance and support to help ensure the well being of your child.

Chapel

We are a Christian Foundation and Christian values are at the heart of our whole school community. Our approach is inclusive and welcoming and is designed to encourage children from an early age to develop an understanding and mutual respect for all faiths.

We regularly visit our Chapel throughout the year for services celebrating important Christian festivals such as Palm Sunday, Easter, Harvest, Remembrance and Christmas. These are wonderful, memorable and quite unique occasions for both children and parents alike!

We have had such a wonderful experience at Highfield. My kids go to school every morning and come home happy saying, “Today was the best day of my life!”

The best testament to the quality of our pastoral care at Highfield is our children – they are happy and confident and simply love coming to school every day!
