At Harrogate Ladies’ College and Highfield Prep School we offer a very warm welcome to American children and their families. We are located a few miles from RAF Menwith Hill and we’ve been working with American families for many years. 

DUCHY COLLEGE FROM SEPTEMBER 2026

Harrogate Ladies’ College and Highfield Prep School will operate under the new name of Duchy College, Harrogate from September 2026. At the same time, we will begin the phased extension of our co-ed provision across senior school.

We will begin therefore by offering a co-ed provision in Year 7 and Year 12 in September 2026. Find out more about our journey to Duchy College.

HELPING AMERICAN CHILDREN SETTLE INTO BRITISH SCHOOL LIFE

Our staff are experienced at helping children of all ages settle in and understand that sometimes extra support might be required to help them adjust to the British education system. The school has a great deal of experience in supporting families returning to the US providing transcripts for US High Schools and successfully helping pupils to gain places at US universities.

SUPPORT FOR MENWITH HILL CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

As part of support for American children we provide:

• Financial assistance to families whose contracts do not provide funding for the UK Reception year (case by case basis).
• A network of family support to help children and parents to quickly settle into British school life including the opportunity for new families to buddy with an existing family at our school.
• Guidance and information for parents on the complexities of the British education system and the different terminology used
• A transcript for US High Schools for pupils returning to the US from the UK system 
• Support and guidance on applying for US universities, as well as those in the UK and elsewhere in the world.

As part of our commitment to our American students based at Menwith Hill, we closely follow the guidance of the US Department of Education Department and liaise with the US Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).
