Harrogate Ladies’ College Crowned National Schools Lacrosse Champions
Harrogate Ladies’ College pupils are celebrating after being crowned divisional champions in the National School’s Lacrosse Tournament.
The annual championship event took place at Surrey Sports Park and is a highlight in the UK schools’ lacrosse calendar.
Harrogate Ladies’ College U19 1st squad played exceptionally well throughout the tournament against some tough opposition. After playing six matches in the opening stages the team were in a confident mood for their division ties on day two.
After three matches they were placed second in their section. A 4-1 win over Edinburgh school Loretto in the last 16, followed by a 4-1 victory over Westonbirt School in the quarter finals set up a semi-final against Scottish College Glenalmond. Another 4-1 win secured their place in the final where they defeated North London Collegiate 3-2 to become U19A Division 2 championships winners.
Fran Irvine, Lacrosse Coach at Harrogate Ladies’ College said,
“Lacrosse is a fierce sport and there were some excellent teams competing in the championships so the girls should be really proud of what they’ve achieved. They have trained really hard and their commitment, grit and determination has paid off on the field.”
