Ukrainian Twins Return to Harrogate Ladies’ College
After achieving incredible A Level results in 2023, Ukrainian twin sisters Diana and Sofiia Shypovych recently returned to Harrogate Ladies’ College.
Diana and Sofiia attained A*A*A* and A*A*A respectively in their A Levels and are both currently studying at Cambridge University. After joining Harrogate Ladies’ College in 2021, their home country, Ukraine, faced a full-scale invasion just a few months later.
The twins were met with a warm reception upon returning to Harrogate Ladies’ College, reconnecting with former teachers and pupils.
“I’ve never felt so welcomed in any place as I did here at Harrogate Ladies’ College,” Sofiia said.
“I felt really loved here as a student and as a person, and I’ve never felt more like me here.
“I was provided with the opportunities to express myself, think about who I am and what I wanted to do in my life.”

During their time in Sixth Form at Harrogate Ladies’ College, Diana and Sofiia were voted by peers and teachers as prefects, and were heavily involved in extra-curricular activities, including fundraising for UA Animals. The twins have continued their philanthropic and humanitarian endeavours at Cambridge, taking on leadership roles within the Cambridge University Ukrainian Society.
Reflecting on the twins’ influence at Harrogate Ladies’ College, Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Bonnie Christie, praised Diana and Sofiia’s remarkable contributions.
“Diana and Sofiia made an incredible impact on our community,” Mrs Christie said.
“Their dedication, commitment and attitude were outstanding, and were even more special given the situation in their home country. I was thrilled to reconnect with them, and I am so proud of what they’ve achieved so far.”
Diana and Sofiia are currently studying Psychology and Behavioural Sciences at Cambridge, and credit their time at Harrogate Ladies’ College with preparing them for the next stage of their lives.
“I have revisited Harrogate Ladies’ College a lot in my memories,” Diana said,
“It’s really nice to be back, there is a really homely feeling to this place. I went through some really formative moments here.”
