Ladies’ College Creates Cake Fit For A Queen
Harrogate Ladies’ College pupils celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday in style by designing and creating their very own birthday cake as part of a national competition for schools.
The 1 metre high cake featured a cupcake croque-en-bouche tower topped with an edible crown. The tower was made from more than 450 healthy cupcakes which were designed, baked and iced by the pupils and eaten at a special Queen’s Birthday Party held at the school.
The edible crown which topped the croque-en-bouche was made by the schools’ Sous Chef, Jane Fisher, who previously worked at Buckingham Palace making cakes for Her Majesty the Queen.
The croque-en-bouche will now be entered into a national competition for schools run by Love British Food. The brief for the competition is to design a cake to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday which uses healthy, British ingredients. The judges include chef Raymond Blanc and the winning school will be invited to Buckingham Palace during British Food Fortnight in September.
Elizabeth Livesey, Director of Technology at Harrogate Ladies’ College, who organised the Queen’s Birthday party at the school said,
“We had fantastic fun celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday and the cake was a stunning centre piece for our party. The girls worked really hard and I hope they do well in the competition!”.
