Community comes together for Remembrance Day service
The Harrogate Ladies’ College community came together this morning in remembrance of those who lost their lives and suffered in conflict.
All pupils aged 2-18 years from Harrogate Ladies’ College, Highfield Prep School and Highfield Pre-School joined Major Tom Wythe in a joint Act of Remembrance and two minutes’ silence to honour the fallen.
Major Tom Wythe, Officer Commanding Peninsula Company at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate, member of the Royal Lancers, delivered a Remembrance address.
“To be invited to share what Remembrance means to me is a huge privilege,” Major Wythe said.
“Today is always a really important day, it’s a chance for everyone to reflect.
“I certainly think back to the more emotional times in my service today. I am very proud to serve my country, and to be here today is very touching.
“I think it’s very important for the next generation to interact with someone that is currently serving. People from all walks of life serve their country, and to have the opportunity to speak to the children is a real honour.

Harrogate Ladies’ College Senior Deputy, Mrs Joanna Fox, served for nine years as a Captain in Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Core, and shared her personal experiences with the entire school community.
“Remembrance Day is always a poignant occasion at Harrogate Ladies’ College,” Mrs Fox said.
“I am very grateful that we take the time to remember those who gave their commitment, and often lives, for others.”
