The competition aims to find the best Junior and Senior School Choirs across the UK and has attracted participation from more than 45,000 children since it was launched in 2003.

The Harrogate Ladies’ College Chapel Choir will now go through to the televised stage of the Senior School competition which will be filmed in March in front of an audience of more than 700 people at Nottingham’s Albert Hall.

Kate Morgan, Director of Music at Harrogate Ladies’ College said,

“Being selected as a semi-finalist in this competition is a real honour and the girls in the Chapel Choir are absolutely delighted.  It takes an awful lot of hard work, commitment and sheer determination to reach the standard they have and it’s very rewarding to see that recognised.  HLC has a long-standing choral tradition but we have never got this far in the competition before.”Kate Morgan

Sylvia Brett, Principal of Harrogate Ladies’ College added,

“We’re incredibly proud of our Chapel Choir.  Under Kate’s direction they have already achieved so much and we’re looking forward to sharing their beautiful singing with the rest of the UK!”Sylvia Brett

The semi-final will be broadcast on BBC1 in a Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year special programme later in the year.
